Activities of the Geelong Environment Council Inc.

The Geelong Environment Council Inc. is an incorporated body with many members. These have included individuals; schools such as Geelong Grammar School, Geelong College, Matthew Flinders Girls School; various major Geelong industries and other local environment groups. Many of those local groups comprise the Geelong Environment Network, administered by GEC Inc. 

GEC Inc. has a Committee elected at the Annual General Meeting, which during the year. Public meetings are generally held quarterly, mainly on particular issues or topics. Sub-committees exist for issues such as: 

  • Corio Bay issues, including dredging it
  • Point Lillias (currently dormant)
  • West Port Phillip Conservation and Biosphere Proposal
  • Marine Parks and Aquaculture
GEC Inc. is, or has been, represented on a number of outside committees and organizations, including: 
  • Environment Victoria Inc.
  • Port Phillip Conservation Council Inc.
  • Alcoa Committee
  • BHP Fertilizer Plant
  • Corio Bay Committee
  • Point Lillias Regional Environment Management Committee (yet to be formalized)
  • Avalon Airfield Environment Advisory Committee
  • Queenscliff Coast Action Plan and Harbour development
